The door is off its track. Leave it exactly where it is
A door that has jumped its track is held by whatever is still engaged. Moving it can bring the rest down.
What is probably happening
- Rollers have come out of the track on one side. The door hangs crooked, one side higher, and may be wedged.
- A cable has come off its drum on one side, letting that side drop. Look for a slack or tangled cable at the top corner.
- The track has been bent or the bracket has pulled from the wall, usually from a car or a bin hitting it.
- A broken spring can also drop one side. If you heard a bang, treat it as a spring.
Do this in the next five minutes
- Unplug the opener so nobody presses the button.
- If a car is in the garage and the door is partly up, leave the car. It is not worth the risk.
- Photograph the door from the floor: both tracks, both top corners, the spring.
- Note whether one cable is slack. Tell the company that on the phone.
- Keep children and pets out until the technician has been.
Do not
- Do not pull the emergency release. The door is not balanced and can fall.
- Do not touch the cables or bottom brackets. DASMA: because of the spring tension, cables should be replaced only by a trained technician.
- Do not lever the door back into the track with a bar. The remaining rollers can let go.
