About

A reference desk for people about to spend real money.

Most home repair decisions are made in a hurry, by someone who has never bought this thing before, opposite someone who sells it every day. That asymmetry is the whole story.

What we do

BestHonestPro publishes two things for each kind of home repair work: what the job costs according to named public sources, and what you can verify about a contractor before you agree to anything. Then, if you want it, we connect you by phone with a licensed local contractor who does that work.

What we are not

We are not a contractor. We do not perform, supervise, inspect or warrant any work, we do not employ tradespeople, and we are not a party to any agreement you make with a contractor. We are a referral service, and we say so on every page rather than in a footer nobody reads.

How we make money

BestHonestPro is a free comparison resource, not a contractor. There is nothing to sign up for and we do not sell your details. When we begin connecting callers to contractors, we will be paid a referral fee by the contractor, never by you, and this line will say so. There is no charge to you at any point, no subscription, and nothing to sign up for.

Where the numbers come from

Every cost figure on this site names its source and links to it. Where sources disagree, we say so on the page rather than averaging them into a tidier looking number. Where we could not source a figure to something credible, we left it out, and there are several places on this site where that is exactly what happened.

Coverage

We currently cover water damage restoration, mold remediation, biohazard and trauma cleanup, roofing, garage doors, emergency plumbing, residential heating and cooling, and commercial HVAC across the United States. Licensing and consumer protection rules differ by state, so each page points you at your own state's agency rather than pretending there is one national rule.
