Before you take a quote

The two big cost guides disagree about this by almost double

We are showing you both, because the gap between them is the single most useful thing on this page.

BestHonestPro is a free comparison resource, not a contractor. There is nothing to sign up for and we do not sell your details. When we begin connecting callers to contractors, we will be paid a referral fee by the contractor, never by you, and this line will say so.

Short answer. Angi puts a whole-house repipe at $1,500 to $15,000 with most people paying around $7,500. HomeGuide puts a 2,000 square foot home at $2,280 to $5,120, averaging $4,080. Both are 2026 guides. Treat any quote outside the wider range as a question to ask, not a verdict.

The two published ranges

Angi, 2026whole house, all sizes$1,500 to $15,000, most pay about $7,500. Full spread with variables $1,250 to $22,000
HomeGuide, 20262,000 square foot home$2,280 to $5,120, average $4,080. Overall range $2,000 to $15,000

They disagree, and we are not hiding it. HomeGuide's average is roughly half of Angi's for broadly the same work. Neither is lying. They survey different jobs. What it means for you is that a single national average is a weak thing to hold a quote against, and three local quotes is a strong one.

Price by material, per linear foot

PEX$0.40 to $2 (Angi), $0.40 to $0.50 (HomeGuide)
CPVC$0.50 to $1 (Angi), $0.40 to $1.56 (HomeGuide)
Copper$2 to $8 (Angi), $3 to $8 (HomeGuide)

Sources: Angi and HomeGuide, 2026 cost guides.

Angi also puts labour at roughly 70% of the total, which is why the material line on a quote is rarely where the money is.

What actually moves the number

  • The number of bathrooms and fixtures. Angi puts a per-fixture average near $1,200.
  • One storey or two.
  • Whether the drywall repair is in the quote or not. Angi puts that at $300 to $900 and above; HomeGuide at $300 to $1,500 and above.
  • Permits, $50 to $500, plus reinspection fees of $25 to $150 where they apply.
  • Replacing the water main as well, $600 to $2,500.

The Florida difference

Most Florida houses sit on a slab. There is no basement and often no crawlspace, so a repipe is routed up into the attic and down through the walls rather than run underneath the floor. That is more labour and more drywall.

We are describing the method, not pricing it. The Florida-specific price ranges we found were published by a plumbing contractor on its own marketing page, so we are not repeating those figures here as though they were survey data.

Will insurance pay for it

Generally no. A repipe is treated as maintenance, not as sudden accidental damage. A policy may pay for the water damage a burst pipe caused while excluding the cost of replacing the pipe itself, and gradual leaks, corrosion and wear are normally excluded outright. Some insurers sell riders for particular pipe materials.

Source: Repipe.com. Note this is an industry publisher, not an insurance regulator. Your own policy wording is the only thing that settles it.

How long it takes

Angi says a few days for a small house and up to several weeks for a large multi-storey one. No source we found states as a general rule whether a household can stay in the home during the work, so ask the contractor that directly and get the answer in the written scope.

Where this comes from

Every figure above is published by the organisation named beside it. Nothing on this page is our own estimate.
